Bill Gonillo Remembered

(Bridgeport Bluefish Website)

The Bluefish lost a valued member of our extended family on September 22 with the passing of Bill Gonillo, the sports anchor of Cablevision News 12 Connecticut.

Bill was a constant fixture at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard from the team's initial season right through to this year. He would be there to shoot footage, conduct interviews and offer in-depth coverage, often racing back to Norwalk to do his nightly sports show. His baseball knowledge, along with his sense of humor, were welcome additions to the local sports scene.

Bluefish CEO Mary-Jane Foster remarked, "Bill was a great, generous, giant spirit of humor and kindness who also happened to love sports. We will so miss the guy who loved the Bluefish and was such an extraordinary fan. He never, ever failed to do the best that he could for us. I will miss his genuine affection for the Bluefish and his infectious humor. We will all miss his dedication to sports of all kinds and caliber in Fairfield County. We send our thoughts and prayers to his family."

Bill wore a number of hats, also co-anchoring a Saturday-morning Yankees show on ESPN radio. He spent the last 12 years at Channel 12, after stints with Yale football, the Hartford Whalers and other media outlets around the state.

Next season, the press box at 500 Main Street will be without the presence of a true mainstay in the Fairfield County sports arena. Bill Gonillo will be sorely missed.
